Hester Ann McGill Doyle, 84, passed away Monday, September 2, 2019, in Oklahoma City. She was born in New Madrid, MO, to Howard and Verneal McGill, living her childhood years in southeast Missouri and graduating from Sikeston High School in 1951. She learned to play the piano at a young age and accompanied her father, who was well known in the region as a church song leader and led many worship services and revival meetings. She graduated from Union University in Jackson, TN, in 1955 with a degree in business administration. She spent time in Germany, serving with the special services of the Armed Forces as a social director.
In 1965, she married Mack Doyle and started her life in Oklahoma City, where she served more than 30 years as administrative assistant to Pastor Charlie Graves at Nichols Hills Baptist Church, which later became Quail Springs Baptist Church. Many remember Hester as the one who “ran the church” as she was involved in many of the regular office duties. She knew every church member and even knew many facts about each member, including their home address and immediate family. Hester will be remembered for her piano playing, for doing embroideries, sharing recipes, her love for presidential history, reading many books and knowing how to solve problems and get things done.
She loved her family very much and treasured her time with them. In her final years, she especially loved the times she spent with her brothers Maurice, Phil and Stan and their families.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Sally who passed away in 1997, and her husband Mack, who passed away in 2011.
She is survived by her son, Pat and his wife Sandra, her son Scott, her daughter Dedra, her son Chris and his wife Karen, her son Jon and his wife Lisa, as well as her grandchildren, Jay, Renee, Rebecca, Tasha, Will and Peyton and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation with family will take place Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 Northwest Expressway, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be Monday, September 9, 2019, at Quail Springs Baptist Church, 14613 N. May, at 2:00 p.m.
