Hollye Jeanne Barrett Nelson

Hollye was beautiful — inside and out. Anyone who knew her saw it right away, but her husband made sure to tell her so, every day. She carried her father's sharp mind and her mother's tender heart, a rare and lovely combination.

Hollye’s world was full of love for her family and pets. Her cats and her dog were more than pets to her—they were also family, always close by and always adored. She gave them the same warmth and devotion she gave everyone in her life.

Hollye had a deep interest in astronomy and space exploration. She also loved to travel, especially with her mother, Gloria. Together, they traveled to Scotland and England too many times to count, creating countless memories along the way.

After attending Trinity University, Hollye worked in the family business, Stars Restaurants. While working there, she went on a blind date at La Baguette with her future husband, Kevin Nelson. At the end of the date, Kevin kissed her on the cheek. Hollye thought he was a little fresh—but she also knew he was the one. They shared a happy life together until MS took her away.

Hollye is survived by her husband, Kevin Nelson; her mother, Gloria Barrett; her brother, Greg Barrett, and his wife, Precia; her nephews, Jack, Luke, and Brock; and her beloved cat, Cutie. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Stacy her husband Peter and their children Brock and Suzanne; brother-in-law Cyle and his children Margeret, Cal and Charlie; and brother-in-law Ryan and wife Mindy and their children Pierce and Piper and mother-in-law Suzie Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jim Barrett; her sister, Tanny Thompson; and her beloved nephew, James.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper on Thursday, September 3.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Hollye’s memory to the Oklahoma Humane Society in Oklahoma City.

Hollye will be remembered for her intelligence, her kindness, and the deep love she gave to her family—both the two-legged and the four-legged members of it.

She was, simply, beautiful.
