Homer Leon Atkison, 86 year-old resident of Choctaw, Oklahoma, passed away March 30, 2015 at his residence. Born November 6, 1928 in Cement, Oklahoma he was the son of John Homer Atkison and Lou Della Mae (Johnson) Atkison. Homer was a veteran of both the Army and the Navy. He was an avid reader and enjoyed visiting and eating. Homer was a truck driver who really enjoyed driving and seeing “What was over the next hill”. He was preceded in death by his parents; and 3 brothers, Allen; Ace; and Melvin Atkison. Survivors include his wife Gladys Atkison of the home; 2 sons, John Atkison of Phoenix, Arizona; and Eric Wayne Atkison of Choctaw, Oklahoma; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Nyla Stevenson of Shore Acres, Texas; and a number of nieces and nephews. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Funeral Home, 8805 NE 23rd St., Oklahoma City, OK, 73141. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m., Monday, April 6, 2015 at St. Teresa’s of Avila Catholic Church in Harrah, OK, with Father Prakash Madineni as the Celebrant. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens, 2301 E. Indian Hills Road, Norman, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
