

Howard B. Hopps Jr. was born in Oklahoma City on March 16, 1924, son of Howard B. and Freda Hopps. He attended Classen High School and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church, a longtime member of the Loyal Knights of Old Trusty, and of the Oklahoma City Men's Dinner Club. He loved to read technical articles, play golf, attend OU football games, and spend time with his family. He began working for Kerr-McGee Corporation after graduation from college, and has continued to be active in the oil and gas business throughout his life. He married his wife Ann Doyle Hopps in 1946, and together they raised three children.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ann, his daughter Elizabeth Dean and husband Jerry Christiansen of Dripping Springs, Texas, his son Bert Hopps and wife Christina, and his daughter Rosemary Stafford and husband Mike. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Joshua Hopps and wife Dr. Amina Ahmed of Glenview, Illinois, Sarah Schmidt and husband Jeff, Laura Hopps of Chicago, Illinois, William Stafford, Geoffrey Stafford and wife Krista, and Samuel Stafford. His three great-grandchildren are Maryam Hopps, Munira Hopps, and Maxwell Schmidt. Howard will be greatly missed by his loving family.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 20th from 6-8 p.m.at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday afternoon September 21, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church chapel at NW 25th and Western in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or Stephenson Cancer Center.
