Ira served in World War II as a military policeman and with the Army’s 1637 Engineering Construction Battalion in both the European and Pacific theaters. After his service, he earned a degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Kansas. Upon graduation in 1949, he joined Skelly Oil Company as a petroleum engineer. In 1951, he joined Cities Service Gas Company, serving in various engineering field and office capacities for thirty-two years, retiring in Oklahoma City in 1983.
Ira had many interests. He enjoyed reading, writing, and cartooning. His writing included family history, short stories, humor, verse, and memoirs. He also enjoyed oil painting, travel, camping, mountain man camps, fishing, and game-bird hunting. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends at a cabin on Table Rock Lake in Missouri.
He is survived by his wife, Charli (Jones) Meador, of the home; son and wife, Granger and Wendy Meador of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, sister and husband, Betty and Bill Morris of Independence, Kansas, and many nieces and nephews.
Ira was preceded in death by his parents, George Franklin Meador and Effie Christina (Weston) Meador, sisters Edith Corn and Mildred Corn, and son Mark Allen Meador.
There will be a graveside service Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 8701 N.W. Expressway Oklahoma City, OK 73162.
