

Jack Duane Dahlgren was born November 18, 1924 in Oilton, OK. At the age of four he moved with his family to Oklahoma City. He graduated high school from Kemper Military Academy in Missouri. He attended the University of Oklahoma, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. During WWII, he joined the 291st Anti-tank Group of the 75th Division of the US Army, and then was transferred to the US Army Air Corps. After graduating flight school in Chandler, AZ, he served as a fighter pilot flying the P-38 and the P-47. He was honorably discharged on October12, 1945. He returned to the University of Oklahoma, and then graduated from Oklahoma City University with a degree in Chemistry. He was a Co-owner of Allied Materials Corp and worked there for 31 years, attaining the position of Executive Vice-President. He served on the Executive Committee of the Asphalt Institute, and was a member of the Lubrication Committee of the American Petroleum Institute. After selling Allied, he continued participating in oil and gas exploration and real estate. Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and his brother, Jim, owned the first pair of waterskis on Grand Lake, which they had to order from California. He learned to sail at the age of ten on Lake Overholser and continued sailing as a member of the Oklahoma City Boat Club on Lake Hefner. He and Anita especially liked traveling and playing golf together throughout the world. At home, he played at the Oklahoma City Golf and CC, where he served as president in 1978. He enjoyed his many days playing and socializing with “The Dawgs” golf group. He was also one of the first group of Master Members in the Landmark Land courses and played them extensively, as well. Philanthropically, he served as board member and past president of the Oklahoma City Art Center (now OKC Art Museum), board member of Mercy Hospital, and board member of Omniplex Science Museum (Science Museum of Oklahoma). He was a member of The United Methodist Church of Nichols Hills for 62 years. He was foremost a great husband, father, and friend. He was a very generous and loving man. He will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to know him.
He met his wife of 64 years, Anita Helen Johnston, stewardess, on an American Airlines Flight on the way to Detroit when he was first working at Allied Materials in Detroit, and they were married there on September 29, 1950. They moved to Oklahoma City in 1951. He was preceded in death by his parents, Blanche and Earl W. Dahlgren, and brothers Jim C. and William E. Dahlgren. He is survived by his loving wife of the home, Anita, daughter Ashley D. Parrish, and son Duane C. Dahlgren. Surviving grandchildren are Lynne E. Parrish, Scott T. Parrish, and Kristin K. Dahlgren, along with nieces Kathy Wright, Ginnie Elliot, Marianne Ott, Nancy Schmidt, and Dana Croom, and nephews Rick and David Ott, Chuck, John, Roger, and Don Dahlgren.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 4 to 6 p.m. Services will be 1:30 p.m., Monday, October 6, 2014 at Nichols Hills United Methodist Church, 1212 Bedford Drive, with interment in Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
