Jack was born on July 19, 1927 in Watonga, OK to Aaron and Lois (Sallstrom) Ethington. He was a graduate of Watonga High School and following school Jack enlisted in the US Navy. Jack served his country with honor aboard the USS Iowa where he attained the rank of Seaman First Class. Following his honorable discharge from the service in 1946, he returned to Watonga where he spent several years working on his family’s ranch. Several years later he met and married Tonya McPherson and they relocated to OKC. Jack spent much of his life working as an insurance agent before opening AJ Janitorial which he operated with his son Timothy until Jack’s retirement in the mid 1990’s.
Jack was a fun loving guy who loved to bring joy to others. Many of his friends and family fondly referred to him as “Jack the Jokester.” He was an accomplished aviator who enjoyed obtaining his private pilot’s license and piloting Piper Aircraft. Following their retirement, Jack and Tonya enjoyed traveling and often took trips and tours with friends from both their bank and church. Jack’s faith was very important to him and he was a longtime member of Community Christian Church where he served for many years as the Secretary/Treasurer. He enjoyed reading his bible, spending time on the lake, and being surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Jack will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Tonya Ethington; a sister Patricia Jordan. He is survived by his three sons: Tim Ethington and wife April, Tom Ethington and wife Laura, and Jack Ethington Jr. He is also survived by his brother Gary Williams and wife Dixie; as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
