

James Alfred FitzSimmons, 86, from Edmond,OK, born 30 Mar 1924 in Sigourney, IA. He died Tue, 07 Dec 2010 at Oklahoma Veterans Center, Norman OK, the son of Alfred Irving “AI” FitzSimmons and Nina Lillian Kave.
Graduated from high school and registered for service in the Army during WWII. He served from Apr 1943 to Mar 1946. He was discharged with honor after receiving the American Campaign Medal, the European-American-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal and 3 overseas bars.
He lived in Iowa and Denver, CO before moving to Edmond, OK in 2009.
On 30 Sep 1950, he married Patricia June (Carnes) FitzSimmons, formerly from Neosho, MO. She preceded him in death in 2008 after 57 years of marriage.
Jim retired from the United States Postal Service in Denver, CO. He was responsible for creating the routes for “bulk mail delivery” for the USPS from Denver throughout the continental United States; this was before the existence of UPS or FedEx.
He was a charter member of the “Bounders United #2754 – Rocky Roos” motor home club of Denver, CO. In his earlier years he was a painter, enjoyed bowling and was an avid gardener.
He is survived by his daughter, Maudie Claire Surber, of Edmond, OK; grandson Jonathan Michael Surber and Becky, with great grandson Marcus Jonathan, of Austin, TX; and grandson Richard James Surber, of Edmond, OK. Numerous nieces and nephews also survived him.
He was preceded in death by son, James Alfred FitzSimmons, Jr in 1992.
The Memorial Service will be held at the Edmond Church of Christ on Fri, 17 Dec 2010 at 3pm in the chapel.
Jim will be interred at Fairmount Cemetery, Denver, CO.
