It is with profound sadness the family of James Dale Gibson, 79, of Edmond, OK announce his passing on September 10, 2024. James was preceded in death by his parents, Marilyn and Dale Gibson; his son, Robert; and his brothers, Delbert Gibson and Thomas Gibson. He is survived by his sister, Nancy Collins; his devoted wife, Sherry (Pettit) Gibson; his former wife and mother of their 4 children, Nancy Gibson; daughter, Mary Giovagnoli (James); sons, John (Darrell) and Jason (Preston); grandsons David & Anthony Giovagnoli; his stepchildren, Melissa Adams (Jerry), Stephani Coker (Rick) and John Sinclair (Lara); and many step-grandchildren. He called Kansas City home for 60+ years where he raised his family and built a 40-year career managing businesses specializing in heavy equipment repair. He became interested in the Masonic fraternity in his late 20s when he joined Alpha Lodge in NKC and remained a member there for the rest of his life. He continued his journey in Freemasonry working to support charitable children's causes as an Ararat Shriner and as an active member of the Kansas City Scottish Rite where he held leadership positions and was ultimately honored with the 33°, Inspector General Honorary white hat. He retired to Oklahoma where he met and fell in love with his wife Sherry. In his retirement he enjoyed many long trips traveling all over the world with his family. Ever the learner and teacher, over the course of decades well before the internet, he researched the family genealogy all the way back to William the Conqueror and in retirement became a certified Master Gardner and spent time as a volunteer answering questions from his community. He was a very loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and a loyal friend to so many. He will be remembered and missed for his wisdom, quick wit and humor. Per his wishes, there will be no service held. A private celebration of life will be held by his family at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.legacy.com
