

James Henry Norick was born on January 23, 1920, in Oklahoma City to Henry & Ruth Norick. He passed away on March 4, 2015. Jim attended Oklahoma City schools, graduating from Classen High School, and the Oklahoma Military Academy in Claremore, OK. He married Madalynne King in 1940. They had two children, Ronald J. & Vickie.
Jim volunteered for the Navy and served 3½ years during World War II on the fleet tug Chowanoc. The Chowanoc was involved in the 1945 invasion forces of the Leyte Gulf, Lingayen Gulf. The Chowanoc was also part of the 7th Fleet operation off of the coast of Japan prior to Japan’s surrender.
Prior to shipping out overseas, Jim was stationed in Norman, OK where he played clarinet in the Tex Beneke Orchestra, formerly the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
After the war was over, he returned to work at Norick Brothers, a printing company specializing in automotive accounting systems.
Jim was a City Councilman and two term Mayor of Oklahoma City. He & Madalynne hosted 19 international students, living in their home anywhere from 3 months to 3½ years. He belonged to and actively participated in many civic organizations and was the recipient of numerous awards. Jim was preceded in death by his father & mother, Henry & Ruth Norick; his wife, Madalynne of 68 years; and his three sisters, Frances Lilly, Dorothy Patton & Marjorie Norick. He is survived by his son, Ronald James Norick and his wife, Kandy; his daughter, Vickie Norick; five grandchildren, Allyson Norick, Lance Norick, Nicholas Koumaris and his wife, Tasha and Alex Koumaris & his wife, Angie, Kelly McLaughlin & his wife, Jennifer; ten great grandchildren, Emily Frosaker, Caroline Waldron, Cecil, Everleigh & Isla Koumaris, Maxwell Norick, Cherokee, Ray, Savannah, and Datin Robinson. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews & cousins.
Viewing Sunday, March 8th at Hahn-Cook Funeral Home, 6600 Broadway Ext., OKC from 8:00 AM - 8 PM.
Services will be Monday, March 9th at 11:00 AM, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 222 N.W. 15th Street, OKC, OK
