James proudly served in the United States Army as a Private in the 29th Infantry Regiment.
During his spare time, James was fond of jazz music.
He is predeceased by his brother James Robert Smith and is survived by his partner of 66 years, Opal Longhofer, his sister Susan Burton, his niece Sharla Lunday, his nephews John Burton and Todd Burton, and his loving friends Aaron Peterson and his wife Kimberly.
A funeral service for James will be held Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper, 6600 Broadway Extension, Oklahoma City, OK 73116. A graveside service will occur at Rose Hill Burial Park, 6001 NW Grand Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK 73118.
