Janet McLain left this world peacefully at 3 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2014. Her warm heart stopped. A good way for her to go if she had to go: quick, with her loving husband at her side. A huge loss for him, along with her family and friends. She was a grand, loving wife for 60 years. She was a great Mother, a great cook, a great Lady. She loved her family. She loved her friends. She will be missed. She was born August 19, 1933. Her parents, Walter Lee Williams and Jennie Lee Baldwin Williams, predeceased her. She is survived by her husband, R.T.; her sister, Alice West, of Wichita Falls; and her brother, Walter, of Oklahoma City. She bore five sons, Thomas, Richard (wife Karen), Charles, Mike (partner Richard Ogden), and Scott (wife Janet). She enjoyed her grandchildren, Katelyn, Ryan, Rebecca (with great-granddaughter Mya), Stuart, Laura, Mary, Jennifer, Will, Mark, Taylor, Davis, and Grant. She made her mark with the Junior League, The Children's Center, Oklahoma Museum of Art, among other worthy causes, still finding time to trace her maternal genealogy line back to the early 15th century. She loved her Christian Science Church and excelled at The Upper School at Principia, graduating from there in 1951. Principia inspired in her a love of learning which underlined her later fascination with art history and genealogical history. She went on to the University of Oklahoma, where she was named Miss O.U., pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma, met and married R.T. McLain. Janet founded her own party rental business and ran it successfully for ten years and was a member of the board of The Mull Corporation, a family enterprise. In lieu of flowers, Janet would be proud of you if you made a gift to the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Boston, MA; or The Principia Upper School, St. Louis, MO. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 2 at Hahn-Cook, 6600 Broadway Ext., Oklahoma City. She had Spirit. She had Sparkle. "God is Love," she said. And she lived it. She had this special Sparkle in her eyes. Grandchildren easily reflected that Sparkle, that Love. Her husband visibly warmed in her presence. It is Sad now for her family. Her Sun has gone down. Her scent is fading. God is lucky to have her. Those of us touched by her have precious memories, but the large Hole in our hearts has a special sadness that prompts a tear at her memory. We really loved you, Janet. 81 years was not enough. Arrangements under the direction of Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Directors, Oklahoma City, OK.
