Cletia "Jean" Blackburn, age 87, passed away on June 14, 2021, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Born in Blanchard, Oklahoma, Jean was the daughter of Mr. Melvin Lee and Dixie Charlotte (nee Neighbors) Blackburn. Both parents now deceased.
Jean graduated from Capital Hill High School where she made high grades in several subjects including shorthand and Spanish. Jean's career began as a Switchboard Operator for Southwestern Bell telephone company. After that, she went on to clean bank offices, served lunch at local schools, and in later years was a caregiver to her mother, before retiring.
Jean was a devout Christian who enjoyed reading her Bible daily, and once had several Diaries that she wrote in daily. Jean will be remembered for her cheerful attitude, ability to bring light into an otherwise dark day, and always prayers for everyone.
Jean is survived by her sister Mrs. Wanda Faye McCutcheon and brother-in-law Robert McCutcheon. Jean never had children of her own, but that didn't stop her from helping to raise and teach other children who came into her life, such as her nieces and nephews and neighborhood kids who turned up for one reason or another. Jean was predeceased by her sister Mrs. Maxine Higgins and Brother-in-law Mr. Willie Higgins, her sister Hazel Lanell Blackburn, and her two brothers Argle "Al" and Melvin Blackburn.
Come-and-go visitation for Jean will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2021 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Advantage Funeral Home, 7720 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73159. The funeral service will be on held Friday, June 18 at 2 pm, at Advantage Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at the Blanchard Cemetery.
