Jeff spent his childhood growing up in Allentown, Pennsylvania. As a child, he loved roller skating, Motown music, and playing football. He graduated from Louis E Dieruff High School in 1978.
Immediately following graduation, Jeff joined the United States Army. He spent the next 26 years serving his county with honor and pride. Throughout his military career, Jeff earned numerous awards and decorations. Jeff was proud to be a part of the 101st Airborne/Air Assault command for many years, but his greatest treasure was leading his troops through respect, compassion, and love. Jeff retired in 2004 and always took great pride in identifying as “Retired 1st Sergeant”.
His service to his country and community did not stop with retirement. Jeff started his second career working as a civilian at Tinker Air Force Base, retiring again in 2020.
Jeff gave back to fellow servicemen through his involvement with the Patriot Guard. He participated in many ceremonies and supported grieving families through giving of his time and attention.
Jeff’s journey through life gave him the opportunity to see many places, but his favorite place was always home. His door was always open to his friends and family and he loved a good party. For many years Jeff was an avid Harley rider. He had recently traded in his 2 wheels for 4 wheels and enjoyed many Jeep off-road adventures.
Jeff leaves behind a son, Joseph Garis, daughter-in-law Adelynn, and grandchildren Anaya, Judah, and Jhase of Salinas, California; and his inherited family: Kelley Francen, daughter Nicole Breeden, son-in-law Logan and grandchildren Falen and Jade of Shawnee, Oklahoma. Also left to mourn his loss is his sister, Debbie Garis Rosner of Mertztown, Pennsylvania.
Jeffrey will be greatly missed.
