Jerome "Ken" Kenneth Gruber
February 6, 1937 – November 14, 2020
Ken was born in Wisconsin. Growing up Catholic, Ken went to Catholic Schools and served as an Altar Boy.
Ken trained as an aircraft mechanic, and when he was in the Air Force, he was an inspector of aircraft in Vietnam. Ken retired from the Air Force here in Oklahoma, and went to Our Lady of Fatima until it closed, then started coming to St. Robert Bellarmine.
St. Robert became his family when the love of his life, Jackie, passed away. Ken would tell anyone who would listen about his beloved Jackie - he missed her so much! Together Ken and Jackie worked with horses. Jackie trained them and Ken was an avid horseman himself.
They were also very involved with dogs, particularly Doberman Pinschers, both training and showing them. Ken's home was filled with awards won for showing dogs, as well as for being a pet therapist. Ken spent more than 10 years, and hundreds of hours, visiting hospice patients with Odyssey Healthcare, bringing them the comfort only a dog can bring.
Ken was also an avid and active member of the Knights of Columbus. The knights were his true brothers, and he achieved the rank of fourth degree in the organization.
The Catholic Church, and St. Robert's in particular, became Ken's family after he was widowed. No matter the occasion, if there was an activity, Ken was there. His sparkling blue eyes and warm, impish smile were a regular sight.
We'll miss your wit and easy smile, Ken. There's an ache in our hearts, Ken, but we take comfort knowing how happy you are with Our Lord in Heaven.
Memorial services will be held Friday, November 20, 2020 at 10am at St. Robert's Bellarmine Catholic Church, Jones, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at 1pm at Ft. Sill National Cemetery in Elgin
