Jerry Easter Herrod
August 29, 1955 – February 8, 2020
Jerry Easter Herrod was born on August 29, 1955 and passed from this life on February 8, 2020. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral and Cremation Services in Oklahoma City. Jerry was better known as Chief or Hondo. He attended Chester A. Arthur Elementary School and Roosevelt Middle school in his formative years before going to U.S. Grant High School and graduating with the class of 1973. It was there that he began to excel in football. He spent a great deal of time playing and being coached by his father which prepared him and seasoned him into the athlete that he came to be. The football team had their best season ever, (7-2), during his senior year. His accomplishments at U.S. Grant consisted of Dr. Pepper Prep Player of the Week, ’72 All Conference Halfback, lettering in 1971, 1972 Mid State Champs, and Alternate All-State. Jerry also earned a scholarship N.E.O. to Texas A&M, then transferred to Wichita State. After college he worked for the City of Oklahoma City for 35 years before retiring in 2017. Our family grieves, but also remembers the good times and the lives he touched – maybe he touched yours. He was a brother, father, son, uncle, athlete and many more titles. This man was loved by many. He touched many lives during his 64 years here on Earth. Jerry took the ball, and ran for one last touchdown. Long live #44. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Wilson Eugene Herrod, Sr.; mother, Frances Monday; sister, Ella Herrod; brother, Wilson Eugene Herrod, Jr; and his wife, Vickie Herrod. He is survived by his brother, David Herrod; sister, Mary Herrod Ross; daughter, Nichole Garbutt; grandson, Alex Garbutt and several nieces and nephews.
