Jerry Russell “The Guitar Picking Salesman”, died April 19, 2014 from complications of type II diabetes and heart complications. He was born May 19, 1947 in Little Rock, AR, to Jack and Lillian Russell, but grew up in Wewoka, OK, where the family was clothing manufacturers. He graduated high school from Kemper Military School after a short stint at O.U., he graduated from Central State. Growing up in the clothing business was all he knew and he was at his best when he was selling, until he developed poor health.
When he wasn’t selling, his passion was entertaining and playing his guitar. Jerry always wanted a nice variety of songs for his audience. After getting an order, Jerry would love to play you a song. In his later years he developed a following, playing at retirement facilities. He provided them a moment of happiness. He loved to play Happy Trails, as his closing.
Jerry was an accomplished guitarist and singer, his favorite was blues and jazz. He was a long time member of Church of the Servant and member of the Parakletos Sunday school class. Pam and Jerry enjoyed traveling with their friends and the Sunday school class.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Lillian Russell and Aunt Vivian Haney. Jerry is survived by his wife Pam and her five daughters and their families; brother Van Russell and wife Melanie; niece Madelyn April, her husband Blake and nephew Jackson Russell.
A service celebrating Jerry ‘s life will be 11 am Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Chapel of the Cross, Church of the Servant, 14343 N. MacArthur Blvd, Oklahoma City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the City Rescue Mission, Salvation Army or the charity of the donor’s choice.
