Joan Angeline Stiner was born in the Philippines on January 31st, 1956, to Preston and Beverly Stiner. She spent her first few months there before moving to a new neighborhood in South Oklahoma City. Her brother Preston and sisters Laura and Beverly Ann were all born during their time there. She cherished the years there and met many friends who were very dear to her throughout her life.
They moved to the family farm near Banner, OK when she was fourteen. This move from the friends she adored was hard at first but the “city girl” with an infectious smile and a beautiful voice fit in very quickly at El Reno High School. Joanie came to love the farm and it held a special place in her heart. She returned to it later in life with a family of her own.
Joanie attended Oklahoma State University where she was selected as the music director for Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Joanie loved her sorority sisters and the memories they continued to make until her passing. She later graduated from SWOSU with a degree in music education.
Joanie started her teaching career at Amber Pocasset and was excited when she was able to move back home and work in the El Reno Public School system. Joanie went on to raise three children. Landon, Katie, and Kylie. She loved her children unconditionally. She taught them to live their lives with dignity and to always fight challenges and fears. After retiring, Joanie dedicated her life to taking care of her daughters with whom she shared an unbreakable bond.
Joanie was an entertainer and her remarkable voice only scratched the surface of her talents. She loved to play the piano and to share her love of performing and music with others. She had many friends with whom their relationships never ended. The relationship she shared with her sisters however was the strongest. She loved and appreciated them for always being there throughout her life. Bev and Laurie helped her tremendously through her last years and she appreciated it immensely. She was a very proud Grandma. Brylie, Hunter, Hugh and Henry brought her tremendous joy. Joanie’s spirit and strength was inspiring to the many lives that she touched.
