John L. Carpenter, 92, passed away August 3, 2015. He was born February 23, 1923 in Cairo, W.V. to John L and Catherine (Ross) Carpenter. John served his country in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He worked as an electrician but his love was being outdoors fishing and camping. He was a member of Council Road Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen Carpenter of 68 years; brother, Carl Carpenter and grandson, Chris Carpenter. He is survived by his children; Mike Carpenter and wife Sue, Mark Carpenter and Gary Carpenter; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Formal visitation for John will be from 5pm-7pm, Thursday, August 6, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00pm, Friday, August 7 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with interment following at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
