He is preceded in death by his parents David and Cora Hessel, sisters Dorothy Adams and Helen Hessel and brother Richard Hessel. John was born in Hitchcock, OK and moved to Okeene at age 4 with his family. Growing up, he was always put to work on the farm by his mother but preferred time with his friends playing football, baseball and basketball. He graduated from Okeene High and attended O.C.U. After he served in the National Guard he joined Whitton Supply Co. as an outside salesman offering the first power tools sold there. He continued there earning the trust and respect of Mr. Whitton. His passion for hard work and learning lead him to ownership. Over the years he also acquired AM Supply Co. and Contractor’s Supply and Builder’s Rental while also being active in all industrial supply organizations. He was Treasurer and Chairman of Evergreen, an industrial buying group; served on the board of directors for STAFDA; served as a trustee for the Robert Parman Foundation and Board Of Governors for the Oklahoma State University Foundation & was an original board member of Karsten Creek Golf Club. He was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church where he enjoyed greeting and ushering on Sundays. He loved God, family, & working but his favored pastime was tennis where his love for the O.S.U. tennis program began. His joy was obvious when he was on the court with the young professionals, needless to say, if you didn’t find a tennis bag in John’s car, you were in the wrong car. A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, May 17,2011 at Chapel Hill United Methodist in OKC. Viewing will be Monday, May 16th from 8:a.m. to 9:p.m. at Hahn Cook.
