John Steven Tevis, a 70-year-old resident of El Reno, Oklahoma, passed away on June 23, 2025, at Integris Hospice House. A celebration of life will be held at Minco First Baptist Church on June 28, 2025, at 1:00 PM.
Born on December 18, 1954, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City, John attended Oklahoma Military Academy and Putnam City High School before joining the Marines.
John was preceded in death by his father, John JT Tevis, his mother, Frances Mae Harrison, and his stepfather, Jim C. Harrison.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Radie Burks, and his ex-wife, Nancy Tevis; his sister, Teri Harrison; his #1 son, John Michael Tevis; and his daughter-type person, Cory Dawn Tevis. He was Papa John to two grandchildren, Matthew and Kaitlyn Kempen.
John had a passion for chess, bowling, and amateur magic. He would often entertain his family and friends with his sleight of hand tricks. He was known for his competitive spirit and would often challenge his children to Magic: The Gathering tournaments, which they would eagerly participate in.
In his free time, John was a member of the Garland Evening Lions Club, where he served as President. During his tenure, he helped many children and adults obtain glasses and even sent them to summer camps.
John cherished the time he spent with his family and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his kindness, love of family, and remarkable contributions to his community.
Following the funeral service will be a memorial service at Minco Evergreen Cemetery, 905 SE Cemetery Road, Minco, OK 73059.
