Bob was born to Pauline and Lee Whitsett, the sixth of seven children. He graduated from Putnam City High School in 1951 and joined the army reserves, Oklahoma 95th Division. He married Myrtle Shoopman, and raised their son John. Heartbreaking for the family was the death of their 2 month old son Timothy Joseph in 1957. John fondly recalls the yearly trips, every May and September that the family made to 6 Flags. Bob was a big kid at heart! He loved his poodles, Fifi and Cheri. He always had a fondness for dogs and enjoyed their companionship. He worked early on for Aero Commander. He moved to Utility Tower and took pleasure in driving a truck for the company. Bob later married Mary Ann Thompson, his sweet baby, as he called her. They moved to Houston and built a new home when he began his career with Allied Tower. They enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, gardening, dancing, country music, bowling and gatherings with family and friends. Bob and Mary moved to Vinita, Oklahoma as he finished out his career with Allied Tower. After retirement, Bob and Mary moved back to Oklahoma City to be near family. Bob made friends wherever and whenever. He enjoyed cutting up and joking with the tellers at the bank, the cashiers at the grocery store, and the nurses at the doctor’s office. Bob took pride in maintaining his lawn and having a cold beer in the afternoon. He spent many years fighting the squirrels until he decided, if you can’t beat them, join them. In the past several years, he began feeding and talking to them. He had the chunkiest squirrels in the neighborhood! He even had a favorite one named Roscoe. He also enjoyed feeding the birds at home and at the lake. Bob loved eating anything chocolate, brownies; Oreos; cake; and most of all Hershey Kisses. Every night before bedtime he had a bowl of vanilla ice cream and Oreo cookies. He was an easy going man, fun loving, always looking for a good time! Bob was preceded in death by son, Timothy Joseph; Myrtle Whitsett; late wife, Mary Ann Whitsett; stepson, Robert Thompson; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by son, John Whisett; granddaughter, Mindy Snow (Bryce) and grandson, Casey Whitsett (Cory); great grandchildren, Shelby; Kole; Averi; Emberly; Olivia; Tucker; Gionni and Evyn, brother Jim Whitsett, and sister Jeanne Thomas. Bob is also survived by his late wife’s family. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Gloria Baley (Bob’s special caregiver) and the staff of Good Shepherd Hospice for the compassionate care of Bob.
