Born to Joe and Polly Cortez, Johnny proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 14 years and was a veteran of both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. A five-time Navy Golden Gloves Boxing Champion, he was remembered for his strength, determination, and willingness to fight—not only in the ring, but throughout life's challenges.
Johnny shared 57 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Tonyia "Toni" Cortez. Above all, he was devoted to his family and leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering dedication.
He is survived by his loving wife, Tonyia "Toni" Cortez; his daughter, Joni Beratto; his son, John Cortez; his brother, Kevin Cortez; his sisters, Pauline Wells, Betty Jean Vasquez, and Rosie Cortez; and his cherished grandchildren, Kaitlin Beratto, Cody Ramsey, Caleb Ramsey, Shayla Beratto, Nikki Burleson, Makayla Cortez, and Mallory Cortez.
Though he will be deeply missed, Johnny's strength, love, and enduring spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
