Johnny Slama, an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, left this life on September 9, 2018, at his home in Harrah, OK. He passed peacefully, while surrounded by family, after a long battle with cancer. He was born September 24, 1936 in Apache, OK to Benjamin and Grace Myers Slama. Some of his best times were spent fishing and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities and sporting events, but he was happiest just spending time with his large family. Johnny continued a tradition started with he and his dad and took many fishing trips to the Washita River. He passed on the love of fishing to his kids and grandkids. Johnny fished numerous fishing tournaments and spent countless hours on the water waiting for a bite. While his children were growing up, Johnny took his family on vacations all over the country. Even after his children had grown and left the house, Johnny still frequently took cruises and other trips with his children and their families. He also enjoyed taking his wife, Sandy, on foliage tours just to take in the scenery and maybe stop for a good meal. He seldom missed a trip to McDonalds for his morning coffee. Johnny was a man of many skills – he could build a house, rebuild a car engine, and fix almost anything, sometimes with very little resources at his disposal, but in the words of Johnny Slama, “You can fix anything with a little duct tape and bailing wire.” He retired from a long career with Ohio Casualty Insurance Company, but also farmed, raised cattle and later contracted home remodels. Preceding him in death were his parents, brother, sister, and one grandchild, Blake. Survivors include his wife of nearly 57 years, Sandy K (Foster) Slama; son, Steven J Slama and wife Christy L; daughters, Lesa K Bell; Kara L Bourlon; and Julie A Knoch; 10 grandchildren – Lindsey Taylor, Kobe Bell, Lacey Queen, Lucas Queen, Levi Queen, Kaden Knoch, Kyle Knoch, Mason Slama, Caleb Slama and Madeline Slama; and 6 great-grandchildren – Nahla Taylor, Niecii Taylor, Arianna Quinn, Kara Queen, Sklyer Queen, and Shylee Queen. A Time to Remember Gathering will be held Saturday, September 15, 2018. It is come and go from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, 8805 NE 23rd St., Oklahoma City, OK 73141.
