Dr. Joseph Manora passed away at his home in Midwest City, OK on November 17, 2013 at the age of 66. He was born in Montgomery, AL March 6, 1947 to Malachi Manora, Sr. and Willie Mae (Barnett) Manora. Joseph claimed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. , at Oak Grove Baptist Church, even leading Sunday School at Oak Grove Baptist Church when he was a young teenager. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School (Class of 1965) in Montgomery, AL.
After high school, Joseph joined the U.S. Air Force. He proudly served his country and retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1988 as a SMSGT after several tours throughout the world including Greece, Italy, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam. He continued his higher education getting an associate’s degree in Engineering Technology from Rose State College, a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Business Administration at Oklahoma City University, and a doctorate’s degree in Business Administration from La Salle University.
On April 10, 1971, Joseph was united in marriage to Odessa (Rozier) Manora in Hawkinsville, GA. They were happily married for over 42 years and had five children. Joseph was an excellent cook and gardener. He loved being with his family and hosting family reunions. He especially enjoyed watching OU Football with his son. He owned and managed the Manora Collegiate Consulting Firm and worked for the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration for over 23 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: Kareem Ralon Manora and Hiram Manora; one daughter: Shalilah Manora; three brothers: Jimmy Lee Manora, John Kent Manora and John Manora, Sr.; and two sisters: Lily Manora and Mary Belle (Manora) Purdue.
Joseph is lovingly remembered by his wife, Odessa (Rozier) Manora of Midwest City, OK; one daughter: Shamara Manora of Port Arthur, TX; one son: Ramil Manora of Norman, OK; three brothers: Malachi Manora, Jr. (wife - Lottie) of Montgomery, AL, Carl Manora (wife - Diane) of Allen, TX, and Rufus Manora (wife - Cathie) of Dothan, AL; one sister: Julia Mae (Manora) Williams of Montgomery, AL; one brother-in-law: John Frank Rozier (wife - Cathy) of Los Angeles, CA; three sister-in-laws: Emma (Freeman) Manora and Golden Manora of Montgomery, AL, and Elizabeth (Washington) Cummings of Cochran, GA; and a host of other nieces, nephews and family members. Memorial services will be held at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Funeral Home at 6:00pm Wednesday, November 20, 2013, with funeral services and burial at 1:00pm Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL (Macedonia Community).
