Josephine Marie Fought Darnell passed away on September 4, 2012 after a long battle with colon cancer. She was born in Webb City, OK to Lyle L. Fought and Melba I. Wood Fought on December 31, 1934. She went to elementary school in Pawhuska and graduated from Marquette Catholic High School in Tulsa. She attended the University of Oklahoma where she met Richard D. Darnell. They were married for 28 years and had three children, Donna, Christy and Les. After working for several oil companies around the country, Dick and Jo settled in Oklahoma City where they raised their family. Jo was beautiful, talented, caring, gentle, courageous, had a wonderful, dry sense of humor, and, through her illness, never complained. She loved her children and they loved her very much. She was involved with her family in boating and fishing, summer travel vacations, Sunday school, Girl Scouts, Kerr-McGee Swim Club, Sig Alph moms, Landmens' wives, Geologists' wives, and more. Jody was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Christine Diane Darnell Daniels, her sister Patricia Fought Mann, her brother Michael L. Fought, and her nephew Brett A. Brown. She will be remembered and missed by her daughter Donna Darnell of the home, her son Lester Darnell of Scottsdale, AZ, her sister and brother-in-law Judy and G.B. Brown of Bartlesville, and several nieces and nephews. Les and Donna would like to thank their friend, Virginia, for her never ending support, and Dr. Saadia Chohan, Tracy, and the rest of the staff at Cancer Specialists of Oklahoma for taking such good care of their mom for so long. ln lieu of flowers, donations to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or the American Cancer Society would be appreciated. A private graveside service will be held for Josephine and Christine.
