Kate M. Gault was born Oct. 10, 1917 on the family ranch near Kendalia, TX. She died Feb. 25, 2016 in Oklahoma City, OK. Kate was the second child and only daughter born to A.J. McCrocklin Sr. and Nancy Elizabeth (McElroy) McCrocklin. She rode horses before she could walk. Kate and her older brother, Jack, rode tandem on horseback to attend Shepard Creek School; a one room school for which the family donated land. Her mother taught at the school until the children outgrew the school. The family then moved to Boerne, TX. There she graduated from high school as the salutatorian of her class, missing valedictorian because of a deportment grade! The family then moved to Austin, TX. Kate graduated with a degree in business and served as administrative assistant to the Dean of Women while in school. When WWII started she had a chance to join the war effort working for the Security Intelligence Corp, where she helped to maintain security for the Manhattan Project. It was here that she met the love of her life, Frank Gault Sr. They were married May 5, 1946. Kate and Frank moved to Oklahoma where in 1949 their only child Samuel Franklin Gault Jr. was born Dec. 27, 1949. Kate worked for various community service organizations and then became employed at the Oklahoma Department of Public Welfare. She always said she started as the dumbest steno and worked her way up to a pretty smart administrator. After her retirement she and Frank traveled to and kept the peace at Shepherd Mall as part of a walking posse. With the birth of their grandchild they did their best to keep Streets Department Store open buying baby gifts. Kate is survived by her son Samuel Franklin Gault Jr. and her “daughter” Carolyn and her only granddaughter Kate E.W. Gault. She was predeceased by her parents, her spouse and her brothers A.J. “Jack” McCrocklin Jr. and his wife Lois and James Henry “Jimmy” McCrocklin and his wife Harriett. Services will be 3:00pm Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016 at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 2717 W Hefner Rd in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Britvil Food Pantry, 8717 N.
