Katherine "Jane" Farmer, 81, of OKC passed peacefully from this life on June 3, 2020 with her loving family by her side. She was born on May 5, 1939 in Austin, TX to Egbert and Onee (Woodward) Lay. She was raised in Texas and graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor’s degree and went on to earn her Master’s degree from Southwest Texas State University. During a trip to visit her sister in Las Vegas, Jane was introduced to a young soldier named Rufus “Lee” Farmer. Jane and Lee were married on August 17, 1960 and had two daughters, Nadine and Cheryl.
Due to Lee’s military service, the family was stationed in: Hickam AFB Honolulu, HI, England AFB Alexandria, LA, and Randolph AFB Universal City, TX. Jane taught school at Austin ISD, Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD, and San Antonio ISD. She retired in May of 2000 as the head of the reading program at East Central High School in San Antonio. Lee passed away in November of 2012 after 52 wonderful years with Jane. She moved to Oklahoma City in May of 2017 to be closer to her daughter and granddaughter.
Jane was a kind, independent and patient woman who loved to travel and explore the country. She and Lee spent their summers in Lenoir, NC and the winters in Rockport, TX. They would visit family and friends along the way. She was the keeper of the family history and she and Lee spent years collecting information about both sides of the family tree. She loved to work with stained and fused glass. She created beautiful pieces of stained glass and jewelry. In addition to painting, she also did cross-stitch. Art projects with her granddaughter Katherine were always something she enjoyed. Jane was a loving wife, a caring mother, and a proud grandmother. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rufus “Lee” Farmer, her sister Audrey L. Burns and brother-in-law Maj. Harry Burns. She is survived by her two daughters: Nadine Branch and husband Glenn and Cheryl Farmer; four grandchildren: Katherine Brink, Joshua Branch, Laura Branch, and Elise Garza; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members.
