On February 29, 2012, Laquitta Dean Mash, faithful wife, adoring mother, doting grandmommie and grammie, and gracious woman of God left this world for her heavenly home to be united with her Lord and Savior and love of her life to rejoice for all eternity. Born April 23, 1934 in Port, Oklahoma, Laquitta grew up in Oklahoma City. Laquitta married Bill Mash, her husband of 53 years who preceded her in death. Laquitta is survived by her two daughters, Brenda Phillips, her husband Chuck Phillips of Oklahoma City and Connie Williams and husband James Williams, of Oklahoma City; two grandsons, Chuck Phillips, III of Tulsa, Cody Phillips of Tulsa, and a granddaughter, Ashley Williams of Tulsa. She also leaves two sisters, Gretnia McGee and Carol Caldwell of Oklahoma City. Missing her dearly will be a host of nieces, nephews and other family members. Laquitta was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas H. Grant and Gurtha Mae Miller Grant, and by her twin sister Loretta Greene. Laquitta has been many things to many people: wife, mother, grandmommie, grammie, grandma Quita, sister, aunt, fellow church member and friend. Across all of these roles, she exemplified the very essence of what a Woman of God should be. Her Christ-like love can fill a room, and yet with God’s help she was always as tough as the circumstances called for. She traveled the world standing with and supporting missionaries. Young women across the nation can say that they drew closer to God because Laquitta was their camp counselor. Her home was continuously open to young women starting a new phase in their lives, whether it might be a wedding shower, baby shower, or simply welcoming a new face in the congregation.
She always knew just the right thing to do when we went through hard times. Sometimes it was a word of encouragement, sometimes a shared word of prayer, or just the right scripture we needed to hear. But other times, she just looked you in the eyes and gave your hand a squeeze and said, “Oh, I know it.” And she did. When she did this, you knew in your aching heart that you would not be alone. We will miss Laquitta. But, somehow it seems right to think of her waiting to greet us into her heavenly home. In the meantime, we can honor her by demonstrating her grace, openness and hospitality. We can be with those who need to learn and give them an example. We can show courage in the face of adversity. We can reach out to those who are hurting and say, “Oh, I know it.” The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Florence Night and Day and Mercy Hospice for their unending care and support. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to “The Bridge” Church in support of missionaries. The family will be present to greet friends at Chapel Hill Funeral Home on Sunday, March 4 from 2-4 pm. Funeral Services will be held at The Bridge, 1116 W Highway 152, Mustang, Oklahoma on Monday, March 5 at 10am. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements under the direction of Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Oklahoma City, OK.
