Laura Lee Baker

December 20, 1966October 1, 2019

Laura Lee Baker, age 52, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at Tuscany Village Nursing Center in Oklahoma City. She was born December 20, 1966, in Atlanta, Georgia to Geraldine (Gerri) Hancock and Martin (Marty) Hancock. Laura grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta, spending her free time involved in drill team and choir. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1988, with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications. While there, she affiliated with the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and was an avid member. After graduation, Laura moved to Dallas where she started her career as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines, which she loved wholeheartedly. While in Dallas she also was a member of the Plano Junior League and worked at the apparel mart, always having a great love for fashion. She often indulged in the things she loved, rather it be Mexican food or a rock concert. Laura was a social butterfly who never met a soul that didn’t adore her. She lived the life she was given to the fullest, always with a smile on her face. Laura is survived by her daughter, Alexa Baker; her father; her brother, Matt Hancock; and many other cousins, nephews, aunts and uncles. She is predeceased by her mother; uncle, Tom Murphy; and grandparents. Laura was one of my favorite AXO sisters of all time. She had one of the kindest hearts I have ever met. She had a kind word and smile for everyone. I can still hear her laugh.... she laughed a lot!!
Although we lost touch, I have thought of Laura often. I am grateful to have called her a friend and a sister. Rest in peace my sweet friend. I love you.

Sweet Laura, you were one of the kindest people I’ve ever known. Always caring and genuine, you were the peacekeeper in our collage girl roommate drama. As we all went through our learning to adult traumas, or so they seemed at the time..... we bonded and supported each other. But you, you were exceptionally thoughtful and caring., always open to friendship, never judging. You were always ready to cheer on a sister or be a shoulder to cry on. We will hold onto your memory and strive to be more like you. Go with God.

When Ben and I first got serious back in 2001, he drove me out to his Uncle Marty & Aunt Girlie's house because he wanted me to meet his cousin Laura. It was a looooooooong drive from Fort Worth, so I knew she must really be important to him. We had such a nice visit and she enjoyed sharing some funny stories about him from their younger days. We were always so happy when she was feeling good enough to get to come to family events. Ben is so sorry that he is not able to make it up to Oklahoma City for her burial on Tuesday. We are sending love and hugs to you all.

My beautiful cousin Laura. Too many wonderful memories. She and I were born 5 days apart and ended up flying for Delta together. What a beautiful soul. Never has a person been so pure of heart. I know she is soaring to be free of her failing body. Until we meet again my friend.
