

LaVona Luellen Willingham Weir was born April 28, 1922, in Aberdeen, TX and passed away peacefully at 89 years of age with loving family at her side on February 11, 2012, in Burien, WA. LaVona was the youngest of seven children born to Hillman K. and Allie Ashley Willingham. Her siblings were Ronald, Alma, Wayland, Durward, John, and Emogene Willingham. Alma and Wayland died during childhood. LaVona spent her childhood in the Texas panhandle.
After LaVona graduated from Samnorwood High School in Samnorwood, TX, LaVona and her sister Emogene moved to Wichita Falls, TX where LaVona worked at Sheppard Air Force Base during WWII. Following the end of the war LaVona and Emogene moved to Oklahoma City, OK where LaVona began a new job at Southwest Telephone Company as a telephone operator. She worked at the phone company for about five years. On October 31, 1947, LaVona went to a Halloween party and that evening met Dwight Leon Weir. Dwight and LaVona were married on March 1, 1948.
Dwight and LaVona raised two children, Linda Denise Weir and Dwight David Weir, in a loving home. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker. Among her hobbies and interests were sewing, needlepoint, embroidery, creating beautiful ceramics, and caring for her family and home.
Dwight and LaVona were married almost 50 years when Dwight died on June 27, 1997. LaVona stayed in the family home in Bethany, OK, until October 2008 when she moved to Burien, WA, to live near her daughter in the Seattle area. During the time she lived at Normandy Park Assisted Living she had many dear friends and was loved by all the staff that cared for her. One of her favorite activities was playing bingo on Friday afternoons with her friends.
LaVona is survived by her daughter Linda Denise Babione and husband Robert Allen Babione of Des Moines, WA, her son Dwight David Weir and wife Kathy C. Weir of Ocean Springs, MS, and her sister Emogene Docherty of Indianapolis, IN. She is also survived by four grandsons Christopher Allen Babione, Andrew Stephen Babione, Joshua David Weir, and Jonathan Stephen Weir, seven great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
LaVona was a member of North MacArthur Church of Christ in Oklahoma City for several years prior to leaving Oklahoma.
A memorial service and burial will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 8701 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK on March 31, 2012, at 10:00 am.
