After a long battle with Heart Disease, Layne joined Our Lord, his dad Leroy, and Bear dog in Heaven. Out of High School, Layne married Susie and enlisted in the US Air Force where he was trained to be an aircraft mechanic. He later joined the Air National Guard at Rosecrans Field. While residing in the St. Joseph area, Layne worked several jobs with his favorite being a CAT operator for Hulcher Professional Services. There he helped clean up train derailments with his brother-in-law Dean and friend Marvin Blackwell, to name a few. In June 1988, his heart longed for something different, so he loaded up his '55 Chevy 2 door post on a trailer, got in his custom ordered 1987 Dodge Truck with his best girl Shelly, and headed to Keller, TX where they were married in 1990. Layne worked at H&B Industries out of Dallas crafting a sales career in custom lubricants, chemicals, and pressure washers. Layne enjoyed deer hunting, weekends at Eagle Mountain Lake with his wife, daughters, Jessica and Melissa during their summer visits, and hunting trips to Wyoming for antelope. In July 1997, Layne and partner Vernon Rose opened Performance Lubricants & Chemicals, Inc. in OKC that specializes in oil field pressure washers, chemicals and a custom line of lubricants. Layne would always say "My Guys are the Best"! When not working in the field, Layne and the Guys restored a '81 Corvette and a '63 Chevrolet Truck. Layne's passion outside of his family was duck hunting. He was a member of the Goathouse Duck Club, AR, and the Lake Rose Lodge, OK. Layne, along with his grandson Alex and son-in-law Mark hunted on a lake on a nearby friend's ranch. Layne and his buddies, who were known as “The Killing Crew,” hunted from Canada to Texas. If it flew and there was a season - The Hunt was on!! Layne and Shelly raised beef cattle and had AQHA horses. Throughout the school year they could be found at the ball games watching their youngest daughter, Kaytlyn, cheering for their home town Guthrie Blue Jays!!
