As a boy his family moved from Dallas to Shawnee where he graduated from Shawnee High School. Lee attended the University of Oklahoma where he was a member of the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity. He completed his undergraduate studies and went on to earn a postgraduate degree in pharmacology from OU graduating in 1958. He began his pharmacy career working with his father, Frank, then eventually he opened his own pharmacies, Professional Discount Pharmacy. During this time he also served in the Oklahoma Air National Guard as a Lieutenant and pharmacist. While in pharmacy school he met his future wife, Janice, and they were married March 29, 1959. Soon followed the birth of their sons, Jeff and Scott. Later in life Lee chose a new career path, and after selling his pharmacies he became a commercial real estate broker and began a successful career in selling and investing in commercial real estate.
Lee and Janice became devoted members of Temple B’Nai Israel where Lee served as President of Brotherhood. He always participated in the various Temple shows and productions where he could showcase his love for singing and dancing.
He spent many years coaching his sons as well as various city league softball teams that won several championships. However, his true calling was mentoring young people. Whether they be a student working at one of his pharmacies or through Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Oklahoma, where he was honored as Big Brother of the Year in 2000.
Lee loved everything OU, especially football and basketball. He was a man of few words until you got him talking about his beloved Sooners! In addition, he loved spending time traveling the world with Janice, playing golf, planning his next meal and treasured every moment with his children and grandchildren.
Lee is preceded in death by his parents, Ann and Frank Segell, and his sister, Marsha Karchmer. He is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Janice; son Jeff and wife Keli; son Scott and wife Denise; grandchildren Taylor, Carly, Katherine, Alexandra, Zach, Hannah and Trace. As well as many extended family members who love him dearly.
Lee was a sweet, selfless man who put family above all else! The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Heaven’s House. Donations can be made to the Oklahoma Food Bank or Temple B’Nai Israel Flower Fund.
