I can barley remember you anymore especially the little things that mean so much... I wish you could see the beautiful young lady i have grown up to be. I still sometimes find myself watching Banaza and eating popcorn, but yet its not the same as when me and you watched. I know your no longer in pain but you left to soon. I hope you and nannan are enjoying the glorious life God is providing you up there. i love and miss you more and more everyday but i will see you soon enough.

Sarge, I'm gonna sure miss you. I could always rely on you to give me guidance through life's little problems. You have been like a second dad to me since the day I met you, way back when David and I were in Junior High. I rest in knowing that you are with Jean now. I know that you have missed her and I am sure she has missed you. You're not in pain anymore, physical or mental. You are definitely in God's hands now. Rest in Peace, my friend, Rest in Peace.

My father knew about commitment.

He taught me many things.  Most I use in my everyday life and some I am sure I have forgotten (shame on me).  But, the lesson that sticks with me the most is being a man of your word, you know commitment.  Dad made a commitment to serve our country.  And he did so for over 22 years.  As with most carrier military servicemen, he was proud to have done so and would have done it again if given the chance.  He also made a commitment to my mother and was a faithful husband through good and bad and for better and worse for 54 years and 10 months (mom was called home 2 years and 2 months ago).  At least I learned this lesson (I have been married 32 years to my high school sweetheart ).

Over 50 years ago, he saw an orphaned baby boy with no family and no future.  So he said â€œI will take you as my son and I will raise you as mine.â€  And for over 50 years he did just that.  Though there were some ups and downs, he never once treated me as anything but his son that he loved very much.  And even though some years later he and mom were blessed with two boys of their own, neither ever wavered from their commitment to me.  Or for that matter my boys, his grandchildren.  When he was recovering from a major stroke, he would tell the rehab therapist that he had five boys (including my two boys).  I started to correct him once.  I was quickly put in my place and told he know exactly what he was doing.  I was happy to retreat and watch him show his love for family in his own way.  Did I mention that he was strong and strong willed and would walk on water to help any of his kids?

Christ offers us the same opportunity to be a part of his family.  God wants us to be â€œgraftedâ€ in to his family.  And remember that adopted children cannot be cut off from their inheritance.  Peace and Heaven are our inheritance.  If we choose to accept the salvation that is freely given.  Not very often can you say that someone really sacrificed and showed true attributes of our Lord and Savior.  But in this my father did.

At age 15 I received Christ as my Lord and savior.  A few months later Dad was saved and baptized in the same church.  When mom asked him why he decided to get saved he said it was because of the change he saw in me.  For this I will be forever grateful.  My God is good!

If we pass along Dad's legacy of commitment to the young men and women of today, our society will be able to do great things again and we will be able to provide a bright  future  our children and grandchildren.  I will be forever, grateful to a father that knew and understood what commitment was all about and was willing to make the necessary sacrifices to see it through.  As he would often say "don't try, just do."
