Leon Lee Russell of Choctaw, Oklahoma was born 11/23/1930 in Stroud, Oklahoma. He was a loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather and died peacefully on August 30, 2016 at the age of 85. Leon was a professional driver, and loved helping others with his mechanical expertise. His love of lakes, river, and outdoor adventures helped him to become a gifted skier, fisherman, and hunter. Leon was extremely passionate about flying small planes and owned two during his lifetime. He loved most sports with his favorites being OU & OSU football, and the OKC Thunder here in Oklahoma and the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers down south. Leon had a caring and giving heart with an endearing sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by his caregivers, friends, and family who truly enjoyed visiting and caring for him. Leon was preceded in death by his beloved parents, wife Wilma, and daughter, Barbara Welch. Leon is survived by his children, Dale Ann Wells and husband Reggie of Shady Point, OK; Karen Wood of Midwest City, OK; and Terry Russell and his wife Kathy of Arlington, TX; grandchildren, Jason Russell; Jennifer Armistead and husband Chris; Kelsey Wells; and Tony Welch and wife Cathy; great-grandchildren, Axel and Hudson Welch; siblings, Thelma Whitt; Frank Russell; Marvin Russell; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2016 at Eastland Hills Baptist Church (SE 29th and Hiwassee Road) with burial to follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery, Del City, Oklahoma. Viewing will be held at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Funeral Home, 8805 NE 23rd St., Oklahoma City, OK 73141 from 1-8 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2016.
