Lois Spitler lived a beautiful life of 99 years that touched many. She was born June 1, 1921 in Marquette, Michigan, the only child of Eldred and Phoebe Brown. Active until the very end, she passed away peacefully on August 4, 2020.
Lois received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Michigan and worked in Detroit as an Executive Secretary in the automotive industry until she moved to Oklahoma in 1970. In December of that same year, she married her beloved husband, Eric Spitler. After the move to Oklahoma, Lois worked in the insurance and petroleum industries. Before her retirement in 2016, Lois worked for many years as a personal assistant to Dr. and Mrs. H. Wallace Vandever.
Lois was always a hard worker, often taking two jobs to support her five children. Despite her demanding professional obligations, Lois also found time to give back to the community, serving for many years as treasurer of the board of the Lyric Theater, as a volunteer at Deaconess Hospital, and as a polling volunteer for the Oklahoma County Election Board.
Lois loved dogs as much as—and sometimes maybe more than—people. She had a heart for strays and runaways. Lois has left behind a spirit of generosity and love that generations of her family can carry on as her enduring legacy. She will surely be remembered for her many accomplishments both in the community and among her own friends and family.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughters Sharon Locklear of Michigan and Pamela Gausden of Oklahoma, and her grandsons Mark Stoker, Billy Dick and Gregory Locklear.
She is survived by four generations of family: her daughters Sharleen White of Oklahoma, Ronnie Adams and Robert of California, son David White and Linda of Oklahoma, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
