

Lora Lorene Bates, age 92, died March 4, 2011. She was born in Sulphur Springs, Tx August 4, 1918. Preceded by: Husband- Hoil E Bates, Mother- Lenora Woods Clopton, Father- Ollie Green Clopton, Brothers- Malcom Clopton, Foy Clopton, and Sisters- Lilly May Clopton Lovell, Ollie Lee Clopton, Katy Ruth Clopton Pigg, Mildred Clopton Murray Survived by: Son- Danny E Bates and his wife Judy, Daughter- Jeanette Bates Rhodes and her husband Dusty, Grand Children- Melissa Oldham, Sam Oldham, Jason Bates, and Meredith Bates, and Great Grand Children- Calvin Oldham and Lillian Oldham, niece- Nancy Murray Martin and her daughter Melinda Martin. Lora Lorene Clopton was the youngest of seven children and descended from original Texas settlers. From Texas the family moved to Comanche, Oklahoma where she grew up. Lora moved to Oklahoma City to work at the Douglas Aircraft Plant where she met the love of her life, Hoil Bates. They were soon married March 20, 1943, and Hoil was called up to serve in England for the duration of the war. After the war, Danny and Jeanette were born and they all lived in Oklahoma City. Lorene and Hoil joined the Olivet Baptist church where they were very active and made life-long friends. Lora had a very successful career in selling Luzier cosmetics that won her many awards and trips. Hoil passed away in March of 2001 and in July of 2002, Lora moved to Houston to be close to her children. Lora suffered a stroke March 20th, 2010, and her health gradually declined until her death. She will be missed and her loving memories will remain with us forever.
