Loy Gene Chandler was born October 5, 1933 in Clovis, New Mexico to Edward Eugene and Estella Josephine (Canard) Chandler. Gene graduated high school from Boswell, Oklahoma. He was in the Army for 6 years; active for 4 years and reserve for the next 2 years. Gene then went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma. He received his master’s degree from the University of Texas. Gene worked for the Department of Human Services for 37 years doing social work and administration. Gene also worked for 25 years at Co-Vantaged Harrah Senior Housing. Loy had ranches in Southeast Oklahoma, Lincoln County, and Harrah, Oklahoma. He always had cattle and enjoyed vegetable gardening. Gene loved his family more than anything and doted on his 2 grandchildren.
Gene is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lura Chandler; daughter, Brenda Jean and husband Kord Campbell; grandchildren, Connor Campbell and Lily Campbell; nephew, David and wife Sue Jones; niece Pat and husband Larry South; and numerous other family members. Loy was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Estella; sister, Ruth Jones; and brother, Leonard Chandler.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday October 24, 2019 at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home.
