Lucy was born April 20, 1930, in Rush Springs, Oklahoma, to James Dayton Conner and Alta Jewell Conner (McCoy). Though her family moved frequently throughout her childhood, Lucy grew up with a deep appreciation for faith, family, and community.
Lucy pursued accounting studies at the University of Oklahoma, earning her CPA certificate and building a successful career as a Certified Public Accountant. She was known for her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and dedication to doing things the right way.
As a longtime member of the PTA, her passion for supporting families and education led her to serve as State President of the Oklahoma PTA from 1991 to 1995. During her time in leadership, she worked to strengthen connections between parents, teachers, and schools across Oklahoma.
Lucy’s Christian faith was the foundation of her life. As a faithful member of Victory Church, she lived out her beliefs through kindness, service, and devotion to those around her.
Family was the greatest joy of Lucy’s life. She loved nothing more than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her home was a place of comfort and welcome, where there was always a fresh pot of coffee ready and a chair at the table for anyone who stopped by.
Lucy also loved cheering for her favorite teams, the Oklahoma Sooners and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Game days were filled with excitement as she enthusiastically shouted “Boomer Sooner!” and her joyful “Yeh-hoo!”
She was also known for her wonderful cooking. Her sourdough rolls were legendary among family and friends, and her Sunday roasts, dump cake, and homemade birthday cakes became cherished traditions that brought the family together.
Lucy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Ward, in 2009; her parents; and her brothers JD Conner and wife Lois, Dale Conner, and Joe Conner.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Mark Ward and Kay Soper and husband Rob; her grandchildren Kayla Griffith and husband Justin, Tara Van Gorder and husband Josh, Troy Travis and wife Kimmi, and Casey Travis; her great-grandchildren Aurora Lucille, Clayton Todd, and Lucas Cole; her sisters-in-law Shirley Conner and Frieda Conner; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends who were blessed by her life.
Lucy will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her loving heart, and the warmth she brought to every home and every gathering. Her legacy of faith and family will live on through those who loved her.
