M. Lorraine Powers, 91, of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away on March 23, 2026, and went to join her husband, Jim, behind the pearly gates of heaven. She was born in Strong City, Oklahoma on June 7th, 1935, to parents Everett and Edith Jackson.
Lorraine grew up in Roger Mills County, Oklahoma where she played High School basketball, worked as a waitress and married. She was married to her husband Jim for 61 years until his death in 2014. Lorraine and Jim moved to Yukon, Okla in 1959 where she graduated nursing school and became an LPN at Baptist Medical Center serving there until retirement. While in Yukon she and Jim raised their four kids, John, Bob, Diane and Mick. After retirement Lorraine travelled with Jim, for work and lived in many diverse locations to include Delaware, Texas, Israel and several locations in Oklahoma. Lorraine and Jim spent several years touring the country in their motor home after his retirement, enjoying the great weather and friendship of the many parks they frequented. For their golden years Lorraine and Jim settled in Shawnee, Okla where they hosted kids, grandkids, relatives and friends for many years of holidays and other celebrations. Lorraine was a great Mom and cook and the epitome of “let me get you something to eat”! Lorraine was always busy and never let a task remain undone. She was the hardest working, most committed lady that many have ever seen. Lorraine’s kids, grandkids and a host of friends mourn her absence and will miss her deeply.
