Mancil DeWayne Oden was born in Oklahoma City on July 24, 1941, to Mancil and Lillie Bernice Oden and passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025. His last week was spent in a hospital but that did not stop family from filling his room, playing music and sharing stories.
DeWayne had so many nick names, but to Marilyn, he was “Do.” They were always “Do” and “Mo.” “Butterball” was a family nickname, and “Papa” is what most of the family called him. Named after his father Mancil, he never went by that name; to everyone he was Dewayne.
His first job was at Uncle Elvis’ grocery store: Oden’s Red & White Grocery in Oklahoma City when he was only 10 years old.
Mancil graduated from Capitol Hill High School of Oklahoma City and from UCO of Edmond where he received his bachelor’s degree in accounting.
He married the love of his life, Marilyn, on December 1, 1961. For the last few years of their lives, Granny and Papa were members of Heritage Fellowship Church in Edmond.
He loved grilling, filming family and church gatherings, but most of all - spending time with family. It did not matter what we were doing as long as we were together, he was happy.
DeWayne and Marilyn both loved to race cars and equally loved to tell us of their racing stories.
DeWayne was a pastor at Center of Praise in Oklahoma City and an accountant for Burns Paving’s for most of his adult life. He loved the Lord and never missed an opportunity to share the gospel. He worked his entire life and finally retired from both a few years ago.
Throughout his life he lived in Texas, Colorado and Oklahoma. He traveled to Africa on a mission trip when he was in his late 20’s.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, daughters Denise and Jennifer, parents Mancil and Bernice Oden, brothers Larry and Maurice Oden, sister-in-law Lacheta Oden, and great-grand child Cory Doyle.
He leaves to carry on his legacy his brothers Danny and wife Candy, David and wife Barbara, Stephen and wife Pat, Sam and wife Colleen and Chris; sisters-in-law Judy and Alta Oden; son Russell and his wife Charlene Oden; grandchildren Christina Oden and her husband Robert Beaubouef, Kimberly, Stephen and his wife Karla Garcia, Kenneth McDonald and his wife Lisa, Shelley McDonald, Michael McDonald and wife Heather, 10 great-grandchildren: Noah and Nick Hanley, Ava and Emma Beaubouef, Kailani Garcia, Shelbi Douglas and husband Mitchell, Danielle Stiffler and husband Daniel, Samantha Doyle and husband Colton, Johnathan Doyle, Austin McDonald; 6 great-great-grandchildren: MaryJayne Doyle, Beckett, Finnley and Bridger Douglas, Isaiah and Jacob Stiffler, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
