Margaret was born Margaret Jane Walker on June 11, 1927, in England, Arkansas, to Charles Newton Walker and Leona Tabor Walker. She grew up in Humnoke, Arkansas, where her family owned and operated the C.N. Walker General Store. Working alongside her parents and brothers, Herman Walker and Dr. Walter Walker, she developed a lifelong commitment to serving others.
She attended school in Humnoke and later graduated from England High School in 1944, where she met her future husband, Gordon Wilson Allison. Following Gordon’s return from World War II, they were married on December 22, 1946, at Humnoke Methodist Church. Margaret earned her bachelor's degree in education from Arkansas Teachers College (now the University of Central Arkansas) in 1951 and taught elementary school for ten years in Wright, Arkansas.
In 1962, Margaret and Gordon moved to Springfield, Missouri, where they became active members of Kingsway United Methodist Church. In 1972, following the loss of their son, Gordon Walker Allison, the family relocated to Oklahoma City, where Margaret devoted herself to her family, church, and community while supporting Gordon in starting and building a life insurance company.
Throughout her life, Margaret served in numerous civic and charitable organizations, including leadership roles with the Salvation Army Auxiliary, Ladies Music Club, Sigma Alpha Iota, several book clubs, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She and Gordon were devoted members of Village United Methodist Church. Their marriage of 68 years ended with Gordon’s passing on February 5, 2015.
Margaret is survived by her son, William Allison of Oklahoma City; her daughter, Betty Jane Wight of Winterset, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
