On New Years Day 2015, Oklahoma started the new year with one less angel when Mary Margaline “Margo” Rost departed this world for her home with our Lord. Margo was born to William and Mary Ann Cruzan on June 16, 1921. She graduated from Capitol Hill High School, where she was a cheerleader and cultivated many lifetime friendships. After graduating from Blackwood Business College, Margo began her career in the business community in downtown Oklahoma City. Widowed at an early age by the death of Richard Elmer Colbert, and the mother of three sons, she met and married John Edward Rost, Jr., on September 1, 1959. Together they opened “Rost Drug” on the corner of 39th and MacArthur in Warr Acres, the first 24-hour pharmacy in the state of Oklahoma and welcomed two daughters to the family. Margo was an integral part of the Warr Acres Chamber of Commerce serving as President, as well as the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion. She was a founding member of the Miss Warr Acres Pageant, and took pride in serving as chaperone to Deborah Knight, Miss Warr Acres of 1974, who went on to win Miss Oklahoma that same year. She served as the First Lady of Warr Acres from 1983 to 1989 while her husband, John, served as Mayor. For approximately 40 years, Margo was an active member of the Putnam City United Methodist Church and served as a youth leader and a member of the Ann Circle in addition to being an active member of her Sunday school class. Margo is survived by her children William S. Grubb, Jr. (Connie) of Yukon, Richard Ryan Colbert (Jeannie) of Edmond, Robert Cruzan Colbert (Martha) of Seattle, Kedre Kay Rost of Oklahoma City, and Jane Ellen Rost Kirby ( Judge Richard Kirby) of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by grandchildren Kimberly, Cimarron, Matthew, Brandon, Lucy, Austin, Christopher, and Courtney, as well as four great-grandchildren: Abby, Briley, Sydney; and, Reed. She is also survived by her brother James Cruzan of Daytona Beach, Florida, and sister Mary Lou Blake (Bruce) of Bixby. Margo was preceded in death by her husband John, her infant daughter Shirley, her brothers Wallace, Daniel, Bruce, Bobby and sister Betty. Her hair was her trademark. “Red” not only was her hair color and nickname, it reflected her feisty wit and personality. She enjoyed a great conversation as well as an evening at home with the Lawrence Welk show, or a good romance novel. Margo even had the pleasure of dancing with Lawrence Welk himself, a thrill of a lifetime. Margo’s life will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 6th, at 10:00 AM, at the Putnam City United Methodist Church. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, January 5th, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Guardian Funeral Home, West chapel, with family in attendance from 5:00 PM to 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to “Meals on Wheels” at Putnam City United Methodist Church.
