Martha Louise Hemry passed away peacefully, December 30, 2011 in Oklahoma City. Martha was born in Avon Park, Florida May 25, 1912. She moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma at an early age and graduated from Chickasha High School. She then attended and graduated from Oklahoma College for Women (now University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma) on June 1, 1933 in Chickasha with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. She taught grade school in Marlow, Oklahoma until she married Jerome E. Hemry and moved to Oklahoma City in 1934. Jerome passed on in December 2006.
She was a long time active member and supporter of the Town Hall Speakers Organization and the Lyric Theater in Oklahoma. She also enjoyed attending and supporting the Oklahoma City Symphony and the musical events at Oklahoma City University.
Martha is survived by her two sons, Jerry L. Hemry and wife, Linda, and Kenneth M. Hemry of Oklahoma City. She is survived by five grandchildren: Stanley D. Hemry of Phoenix, Arizona, Tom A. Hemry of Norman, Oklahoma, Lorisa E. Roye of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Heather Hemry of Perkins, Oklahoma and Lauren Hemry of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by her sister, Emily Berry and nephew, John T. Berry, III and niece Linda A. Hopkins, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She also is survived by seven great-grandchildren: Reagan, Camille, Faith, Drake, Haiden, Olivia and Ian.
Martha enjoyed many hours of entertaining, hosting and loving her grandchildren at her home and especially around her swimming pool in the summertime. She and Jerome traveled across the United States, Canada, Scandinavia and Western Europe.
A memorial service is scheduled at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Directors, 6600 Broadway Extension, on Monday, the 2nd day of January, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. with private internment before the service.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers a donation in memory of Martha Hemry can be made to The First Church of Christ Scientist, 4801 North Portland, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73112.
