Mary Elizabeth Coffey

December 30, 1942August 7, 2018

Mary Elizabeth (Deatherage) Coffey, 75, of Jones, Oklahoma, passed from this life on August 7, 2018. She was born in Ada, Oklahoma on December 30, 1942, to E.W. and Marguerite Deatherage. She lived in Ada and Mountain View, Oklahoma, eventually moving to Bethany, Oklahoma, where she met Donald Coffey, the love of her life. They married on July 30, 1959, and in August, 1960, welcomed a daughter, the first of their 4 children.

Mary enjoyed sewing, quilting, working word searches and crosswords, but found extra joy beating her family at cards. She loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally, and always saw the best in everyone. All who met Mary loved her and admired her gentle spirit. Her faith in God never wavered, even when she experienced several trials and tragedies in her life. Even in the most difficult of times she would say, “God has been so good to me” and “There are people out there worse off than me.” Mary was a longtime member of the Choctaw Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Donald Lewis Coffey; daughter, Lisa Dianne (Coffey) Flowers; her parents, E.W. and Marguerite Deatherage; and her sister, Shirley Jacks. She is survived by her daughters, Teresa Douthit and husband James of Jones, Oklahoma; Caren Bush and husband David of Edmond, Oklahoma; son, Richard Coffey and wife Millissa of Lexington, Kentucky; sister, Jolene VanNess and husband Eldon of Collinsville, Oklahoma; sister, Sharon Knipp and husband John of Warr Acres, Oklahoma; sister, Brenda Catron and husband Dale of Springfield, Illinois; brother, Jerry Deatherage and wife Karen of Hinton, Oklahoma; brother, Steve Deatherage and wife Jenny of Edmond, Oklahoma; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, plus a host of friends.

The family would like to thank Mary’s granddaughter, Jamie Douthit, for being such an outstanding caregiver when Mary needed her the most.

Mary was such a wonderful example of what a Christian women should be. She always had a smile. She listened to everything you said to her. She always had the best advice if you asked for it but you could just follow her example. She was such a great wife, mother and grandmother. Anyone Mary crossed paths with she was a blessing to. She will be greatly missed here on earth but heaven gained a beautiful soul.
