“MJ” as she was known to everyone was born May 4, 1947 in Garnett, Kansas to Earl and Jean Brooks. MJ grew up in Garnett and graduated with the class of 1965. Shortly after graduation MJ married Jess Sayler. Two beautiful daughters were born from that marriage, Michelle (Shel) Dolph and Barbara (Bobbi) Brady. MJ and her two daughters moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma in 1975 and MJ became the first female police officer on the department. On October 22, 1984 while attending a police school at the O.C.P.D training center MJ met Norm Cook. They were married on June 22, 1985. Putting the two families together was challenge, but MJ would always say, “I’ll be alright.” The four girls, Amy, 11, Dawn, 14, Bobbi, 15 and Shell, 16 years of age did provide some challenges for us, but we all survived. MJ got to enjoy her 4 daughters, 4 son-in-laws and 13 grandchildren. MJ loved going to church, she was a hugger and wanted to touch or hug everybody at church or in Sunday School. MJ loved music and was usually the first person standing with raised arms praising her savior, Jesus. I will miss that for sure. Part of MJ’s job at O.S.B.I was to locate, find and return missing and exploited children to their parents. MJ had some interesting stories of how sometimes she would be able to track down the person who had stolen a child. Sometimes all she could do was listen and comfort the parent. She was a good listener. On April 14, 2013 at OU Medical Center, MJ passed from this life into the arms of her savior Jesus. Thanks to Doctors Johnny McMinn, Jennifer Holter and George Selby for your help and support over the past 18 months. A special thanks to all the cancer nurses and techs at Baptist Integris and OU Medical Center for your tender loving care, MJ loved you all. We miss her greatly, but have the hope and promise from God’s word that we will be together again in glory. Loving you, Honey – Mom - Mem

My prayers and thoughts are with the Cook family as well as her OSBI co-wrokers. I had the pleasure of helping Mary Jane with the Missing Persons from Oklahoma while I was at OLETS from 1983 to 2004. I will miss her emails and phone calls when she was needing assistance on a project. We will meet again one day.

Norm and family -
I just wanted to say that of all the times I've been up on stage at church singing in worship, there have been very few people I distinctly remember watching (as they worshiped) - that caught my eye as a person truly enthralled with God. MJ is at the top of that list!

For the rest of my life, every time I'm on stage leading worship, I'll think of MJ smiling and lifting up her hands in worship and I'll see her out there and thank GOD for being privileged to know her and you.

I love you.

We can not begin to imagine the number of lives MJ touched during her courageous battle. Reading her posts was an inspiration and testimony of the life she lived.
Please know you and your family will continue to be in our prayers in the days and weeks to come.
May God continue to shower you all, with His grace, which He gives daily to each as needed. What an amazing God we serve!
Love & Prayers,

What a walk down memory lane from afar...thanks so much for the pictures and the obituary for your Mom. MJ, Muff, Mary Jane ... will be missed by many. She is truly dancing with Jesus today. Thank you also for sharing her journey with all of us. She gave us strength by going through her illness these past two years. I know I lived each post right along side you all. What a true gem she was!
Sending much love, peace and strength to all of you.

Norm, although I haven't seen MJ in many years, I fondly remember her beautiful smile while I served as a trooper in Washington, County. I, too, remember when I saw her at OSBI in OKC while I was reassigned in OKC. I will miss her and ask God's blessings for you and the family during this, your time of sorrow.
