Though she lived in Oklahoma City most of her life, Mary Evelyn Caldwell never strayed far from her Kentucky roots. Born near Louisville in Casey Creek on April 13, 1923, Ev, as she was known to many, adored cardinals and looked forward to watching the Kentucky Derby all year. After graduating as valedictorian of her class, Ev attended business college and worked at the Kentucky state capitol. She married Jack Nobles, which brought her to Oklahoma. They had a son, David. Ev found the perfect mate for her son, introducing him to her hairstylist and his future wife, Roni. After Jack passed away in 1975, she later married Myriel Caldwell in 1983. Throughout her life, Ev never met a stranger, and remained a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend. She passed peacefully May 22, 2013 surrounded by family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Willie and Hallie, sister Norma, brothers Bill and Charlie, and husbands, Jack and Myriel. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Roni, her two grandchildren, Adrienne and Adam, and her great-granddaughter, Desirae. Services are at 2 p.m., May 28 at Hahn-Cook/Street and Draper Funeral Home, 6600 Broadway Extension.
