Mary Louise Mccall

Mary Louise McCall was born June 22, 1917 to James Wesley Lawter and Beulah May Pool Lawter at Douglas, AZ. Her parents moved to Oklahoma when she was just three weeks old. She was educated in Oklahoma City, graduating from old Classen High School, where she had perfect attendance all four years. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Frank J. McCall, Jr.

She married Frank J. McCall, Jr. of Oklahoma City on September 27, 1940 at the First Presbyterian Church then located at NW 9th and Lee. Frank and Mary Louise were married by Dr. Paul S. Wright who was pastor at the church at that time. During World War II the McCall’s lived in Frederick, Oklahoma where Frank was an instructor for airforce B-29 pilots.

She was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 39 years, retiring in 1977. Her position with the company prior to retirement was Directory Office Supervisor. After retirement Frank and Mary Louise led many church groups on trips to the Holy Land, Egypt, Greece, and Rome.

Mary Louise had belonged to the Sooner Book Club, and had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church, St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church, and Central Presbyterian Church where she had served as an elder. She always had taken an active role in every church, serving in quiet and loving ways: Sunday School, Women’s Fellowship and Circle, prayer groups, stewardship calling, altar guild, and volunteer office worker. She cared deeply for people, visiting those in the hospital and those who were shut-ins. She made countless friends through her work and church service.

Survived by her pastor and friend, Rev. Ralph G. Ranney and his wife Shirley, the Ranney family, a niece, Sue Headly of Bucyrus, OH; and a host of friends.

Services for Mary Louise McCall will be held at the Guardian West Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery immediately following the service.
