Mary Alice (Phillips) Plumlee, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on July 4th, 2020. A celebration of her life will be held at 9am, Friday, July 10th at Fairview Cemetery in Tuttle, OK. Public visitation will be held on Thursday from 12-8pm with the family greeting friends from 6-8pm at Advantage Funeral Service. 7720 S. Pennsylvania Ave in South OKC.
Mary Alice Phillips was born on December 12, 1929 in Hugo, OK to Martin and Eletha (Davis) Phillips. She was raised in South OKC where she graduated from Capitol Hill High School with the Class of 1947. While at CHHS, Mary lettered in seven sports and she exceled as a pitcher for the softball team. She would later play semi-pro competitive softball for a short time. On February 4, 1949 she married the love of her life, Hubert Plumlee. They would go on to raise four wonderful children during their nearly seven decades together.
In 1958, Mary and Hubert followed the Lord's calling into full-time ministry at the Church of Christ in Wayne, OK. They went on to minister at churches in Pauls Valley, OK, Denison, TX, Galena Park, TX, Baytown, TX, Duncan, OK (where they also owned Duncan Furniture Refinishing), New Orleans, LA, Shawnee, OK and most recently Grand Blvd Church of Christ in OKC, where they ministered for nearly a decade before retiring in 1999. The Plumlee’s also owned Berryhill Ice Cream in Edmond for several years in the mid 1980's.
Following their retirement, Mary and Hubert enjoyed traveling. Two of their favorite trips were to the Holy Land and Alaska. Faith and family were always Mary’s top priorities. She loved being a Church of Christ minister’s wife, church secretary, and most of all, a mother. She enjoyed teaching ladies Bible class and was an active member of the OK Christian College Women’s Association. Mary was never happier than when she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful example of a Godly wife and mom who offered unconditional love to those around her. Mary Alice Plumlee was a supportive wife, a loving mother, a proud grandmother, a passionate servant of Christ, and a loyal and trusted friend. She made an unmistakable mark on the lives of those around her and she will truly be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Hubert Plumlee; son Jerry Plumlee; sister Norman Bell Phillips; two brothers: Wayne Phillips and Bob Phillips; and a great grandson Jonathan Maldonado. Mary is survived by her children: Steve Plumlee and wife Jan, Brian Plumlee and wife Karen, and Cathie Totty and husband Gordon; she is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Leann Wiggins, Chrystal Rhude, Keitha Walley, Kevin Plumlee, Malia Coleman, Eric Plumlee, Rachel Norris, and Mackenzie Totty;10 great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; as well as numerous other beloved family members and friends.
Mary was a strong supporter of Oklahoma Christian University. The family has requested that donations in lieu of flowers may be made to OCU in Mary and Hubert Plumlee’s name.
