I am very sorry that we have lost Mary. I have worked with her for several years at OCCC and enjoyed visiting with her.
A few years ago, I saw the most heartwarming exchange between Mary and one of her students. This was when feathers in hair were popular for a while, and Mary had a small clip in her hair with a feather.
One of her students said, "Girl, did you get your hair done at the fair?" The student was clearly excited to see Mary try something new and was genuinely admiring her. Mary was flattered the student had noticed. I was touched that Mary had a relationship with her students where they felt comfortable enough to make small talk and give out compliments.

Mary was a very special woman. She was a prominent female figure to me in my formative years. As long family friends with the Vollmers, our families were intertwined through church, Friday night poker parties & women’s craft parties. I babysat her boys when they were little, and she helped me in Sunday school & choir at Trinity. She gave me advice during my college years. She was a demanding woman, who wouldn’t allow me to slack off. She explained that if I wanted to do something, always do my best. She praised & rewarded successes, and she coached & cajoled through failures. Although life has led me in a different direction, I remember all that she gave with love & admiration. My heart goes out to Aaron, Daniel and their families. She loved her sons so much, and I am sending prayers of comfort to all her family and friends.

Mary taught with me at Redlands Community College. I retired in 2012 but there is so much I remember about her. She was always happy, helpful, reliable and loved by her students. I never worried about her classes, her attendance or ability. Education, as well as her family and friends, has suffered a loss. I send my prayers to her family.

Mary was a wonderful woman! So many years she was our Choir Director at Trinity. She provided us with beautiful music. She is now singing in the Heavenly choir with our Lord listening with intense love of Mary's talents...praising Him, all the day long!

Daniel, Aaron and families, my heart goes out to you with the loss of your mother and grandmother! All of you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Love, hugs and prayers,
Greg and Joy (Leverett) Fowler

To the family,
I haven't seen Mary for a long time but she was our family friend. We became friends in 1995. I met her in Semantics class at UCO. She was amazingly smart and we studied together. She helped me pass the class! Mary was on my mind so stongly this past Monday and Tuesday. I told Bryant that I need to try to reach her. Today, when I arrived at work a song mixed with Jimi Hendrix's "The Wind Cries Mary" was announced on my sirrus radio. I stopped right then and started searching for her on google. I discovered she had passed 2days ago! My heart completly sank.😪 Mary , Rick , Aaron and Daniel all attended our wedding in 1999. We were guests in their home for delicious dinners and guests at her church. She handmade us a beautiful wedding quilt with our wedding date crosstitch into the pattern. She even selected my wedding music "Andre Botcelli"! Such a sweet passionate soul! I know your loss as my mon passed in 2017. I believe her angels were informing me of entrance to heaven!! We loved her and have many fond memories of Mary and will never forget her. May the holy spirit comfort all💕 Sonya & Bryant Davis (Karess,Diesha, (BJ, & Bryson).

I want to say that Mary had a heart of gold. She did so much for her neighbors. I know of many neighbors that she would take their trash cans to the curb on trash day and clean them if needed just because she wanted to be helpful. Like she had free time. I live in California, but my mother has been a neighbor of Mary’s for about 10 years. My mother Betty is 85 and her and Mary were good friends. They were there for each other took each other to their doctor appointments, ran errands for one another, shared mom’s storm cellar together on occasion. Mary did more for my mom though and was so happy to do it. Mary was my moms lifesaver who was always there if ever needed with a smile. Mary would email me updates on mom after her hip surgery and checked on her everyday. That was Mary always looking after everyone else.
We are so sorry for your loss. I know my mom is going to really miss Mary. My God be with your family. Debbie Hall and Betty Marsh
